Elsa is a mother, an entrepreneur and a leader in her community in Peru. She's known for her warmth, her sense of humour and her determination to help other women find their way forward.
But her journey to this point hasn't been easy.
After experiencing domestic violence, Elsa found the support she needed to begin rebuilding her life and creating a safer future for herself and her children.
Today, she's building a life on her own terms. She's pursuing her ambitions, supporting her family and using her experiences to encourage other women who are navigating their own journeys towards safety and freedom.
Reflecting on her journey, Elsa shares:
“When I experienced violence, I felt like a little bird in a cage. Now I feel free. Now I am a hummingbird. Tiny, but with strength.”
For Elsa, freedom is more than being safe from violence. It's having the opportunity to make her own choices, pursue her dreams and build a future she once couldn't imagine.
This is what freedom looks like: Courage to start again.
